Meet the Visionary Behind White Rock Center of Hope
I’ve devoted my life to creating a better world for all people. 3 years ago, I transitioned those efforts to East Dallas when I became CEO of White Rock Center of Hope.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I’ve lived in the Dallas – Fort Worth metro area my entire life, except when I spent part of my 30s in Southwest Florida. My wife, Susan, is a librarian. We’ve been married for 25+ years.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
Currently, I serve as CEO of White Rock Center of Hope – an East Dallas non-profit organization that has served our community for 35+ years. This year, with the help of more than 1,000 community volunteers and supporters, Hope will provide basic needs and empowerment services for more than 7,000 people in our community who are struggling. This assistance will come in the form of more than 700,000 pounds of food, more than 75,000 articles of clothing, and more than $100,000 in rental assistance. Additionally, I have served 10 Christian churches, taught as an adjunct professor for 8 years, and helped 3 organizations provide quality healthcare to underserved populations. The best part of my work is meeting so many wonderful people who want to do their part to help build an East Dallas where all people can thrive.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
We are blessed with an abundance of stellar dining options. I’m answering this question right after a fabulous lunch at El Vecino. Maya’s Mediterranean, JJ’s Café, and Smoky Rose are some of my other favorite places to go for lunch.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
A little over 3 years
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Volunteering is one of the most rewarding and impactful ways to spend your time.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Ascension Coffee on Garland Road gives me all the feels because it used to be Colonial Presbyterian Church, which was the original home of White Rock Center of Hope.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
How much people care about one another and the well-being of our community.
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
I spent almost a decade living in the most beautiful place I’ve been: Naples, Florida.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Neighbors helping neighbors.
Q: How do you ignite kindness in your community?
By treating everyone well and by creating safe spaces. Also, I love that kindness is contagious and the supply is unlimited.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Family, food, and hospitality.
