I spent a lot of my childhood in Colorado and summers in West Texas riding horses and catching lizards on my Aunt Coote’s Farm. My Aunt Coote owned a beauty shop called Sherwood’s and it had pink sparkly chairs. I went to Stephen F. Austin and earned a degree in theatre but realized I needed to make money, so I came to the Dallas area for beauty school. After apprenticing I lived in Deep Ellum and eventually settled in Lakewood. Since then, I’ve lived all over East Dallas including Goliad, Little Forest Hills, and Lakeshore. Today, my fiancé’s and I live in Lake Highlands, and we own Willie and Coote Salon on Abrams which was named after my mom, Willie Mae and my Aunt Coote. They were my inspirations and still are today. The salon is a friendly, creative space where people feel welcome and comfortable and can literally let their hair down and be themselves. We love our community and constantly find ways to give back. We are also a Green Circle Salon and recycle 92% of all salon waste because we love our planet too.
